I've often wondered how steel brackets support so much weight. It was recently that Ying explained to me that a weld is stronger than the original steel that my mind was put to rest somewhat.

I pity Italian awning fitters!

My sister in law and her family have recently moved to a new house on the outskirts of Modena. They asked my father in law if he'd go out and install an awning on their place but he was too busy and suggested asking me. I couldn't think of any reason why not to and so went over for a day trip in July.

Wow, I couldn't have chosen a hotter day if I'd tried! Modena was in the midst of a heatwave and we had the sun on our backs all day. The finished job was great though and they treated me to authentic pizza in nearby Nonantola. It was the local summer festival and we sat watching fireworks at midnight with the children, a lovely end to an arduous day. Maybe I don't pity those Italians after all
